Namibia

Namibia Overview

The appeal of Namibia lies in its vast open spaces, undulating and towering sand dunes, abundance of diverse wildlife, haunting coastlines and timeless beauty. If you are looking for a trip out of the ordinary, how about a desert camp set up just for you under the African skies? A silver service dinner served in this desert rugged setting is sure to inspire many special memories. Bordering South Africa to the south, Botswana to the east and Angola to the north, Namibia is a country rich in natural resources and culture, awaiting your exploration.

Namibia became a German colony in 1884 setting off fierce resistance by local inhabitants including the massive uprising of the Herero and Nama people in 1904. Germany managed to retain control of the country but they lost it in the post-World War II settlements; South Africa was then appointed as an administrator for the territory by the League of Nations. The United Nations later revoked this decision and a three-decade long legal battle ensued between South Africa and the United Nations until February 1990 when Sam Nujoma was sworn in as president of an independent Namibia. Today more than 11 ethnic groups live in peace in this beautiful country with is varying influences showing up in the architecture, food and spoken languages.
