Mozambique

Mozambique Overview

You will discover Mozambique, with its 2 500 kms of palm-fringed coastline, beautiful coral reefs, warm Indian Ocean waters and white sand beaches, on the south-eastern coast of Africa. The toll taken by the violent civil war and the terrible floods of the last few decades is beginning to recede now as Mozambique once again claims its title as one of the jewels of Africa.  The Portuguese colonised Mozambique in the 1700s and attracted by rumours of pearls, established the capital city of Lourenzo Marques (today known as Maputo) in the south of the country. With its broad jacaranda-lined avenues, mosaic pavement and unique blend of Mediterranean and African culture, Maputo used to be a vibrant, cosmopolitan city. It is slowly beginning to recover after the war and is well worth visiting, especially for a chance to enjoy Mozambique’s famous peri-peri prawns!

Escape to the idyllic locations of Mozambique’s Ihambane Province and the Bazaruto Archipelago just offshore. Long stretches of white sand beaches perfect for snorkelling, fishing, scuba diving or just relaxing, are the main attraction to this region. The Bazaruto Archipelago is made up of a string of small islands lying just offshore from Vilankulo and Inhassoro on the south coast of Mozambique. Three of the five main islands were formerly part of the main peninsula but have separated from it over the last 10 000 years. A fantastic destination for group and incentive travellers, the balmy weather, warm sea waters and pristine beaches offer a relaxing backdrop to meetings and events.
