A tropical paradise with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and laidback ambience, the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius is found east of Madagascar, just south of the equator. There are plenty of options here for the MICE market looking for unusual and beautiful locations in which to host their meetings and events. The Portuguese happened upon the island in 1505 and since then it has been colonised and occupied by the Dutch, French and British as well as being influenced by Arab traders, Chinese labourers and African slaves. All have played a part in shaping the culture of the island today. Most of the tourist resorts are situated along the 330km coastline, with the capital Port Louis, on the west coast, being the centre of operations for most visitors. The bulk of the population, however, reside on the central plateau around Curepipe, the island's other major town.
The promise of sun-filled days spent on palm-fringed beaches is matched by the limitless opportunities to explore and discover the beauty of the Mauritius’s underwater world. This is a fabulous snorkelling and diving destination because of the unspoilt coral reefs, clear and warm waters and wealth of marine life. The cuisine on offer is as varied as the cultural influences found on the island and adds an extra something to your MICE experience. Combine all of these wonderful experiences with varied settings to create unforgettable group and incentive travel memories.
Climate: Mauritius has only two seasons with minimal differences between them, making Mauritius a perfect year round destination. Summer runs from November to April, with temperatures reaching as high as 93ºF (34ºC) on the coast. Humidity is highest from December to April but is never unbearable, particularly on the coast where there is a constant sea breeze. During winter the temperature drops a few degrees, however, there is still plenty of sunshine and it is a very pleasant time of year to visit.
